Dental Implants - What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a replacement for the root of a tooth. They are titanium screws that are placed into the jawbone and secured, just like the root of a healthy tooth. The bone then grafts around the implant to create a secure, life-long bond. Once that graft is ready a crown is secured onto the implant and carefully crafted to look just like your surrounding natural teeth.

Tobias Keene, D.D.S. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.

Filling, Crown & Bridge - Crown
A dental crown (cap) is placed over a damaged natural tooth or on top of a dental implant to restore appearance and function. On a natural tooth, the decay is removed, the tooth is modified to create a platform and the crown is placed. On a dental implant, the crown is placed on top of an abutment and connected to the implant. Either way, a digital image or impression is made of the existing tooth in order to fabricate a new crown. Crowns can be made out of tooth-colored materials like porcelain or precious metal like gold.

Preventative Care - Dental Exams, X-rays, Cleanings
Preventative care is a critical part of supporting overall oral health. We assess the overall health of your teeth and gums and look for telltale signs of other problems such as oral cancer. The sooner an oral health problem is found, the easier and less painful it is to treat. It is recommended that patients have exams every 6 months and cleanings every 3-6 months, depending on the status of your oral health in the moment. We also offer dental sealants and fluoride treatment.

Preventative Care - Night Guards
The main reason to get a night guard is to prevent damage to your healthy teeth and restorations that result from teeth grinding and/or clenching (both are called bruxism). For those who grind their teeth, have implant restorations, have teeth with indentations at the gum line and are diagnosed with periodontal disease, a night guard should be worn as a preventive measure. Not only can this save your natural teeth from wear and fracture, but it will also protect restorations already in your mouth.

Preventative Care - Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is used to remineralize the tooth and make it more resistant to the acid and bacteria in the mouth. It is recommended for those susceptible to cavities, that have receding gums, and helps with general sensitivity as well. Fluoride varnish utilizes a natural tree resin base that facilitates adherence of the varnish to the teeth and prolongs the contact time between fluoride and the tooth surfaces. Your dental provider will remind you not to eat or drink for 30 minutes after fluoride has been applied.

ドクター プロフィール
プロフィール 景子先生の曽祖父は、製菓工場を営んでいました。そのせいか、おじいさんは総入れ歯になってしまいました。まだ、小さかった彼女にとって、入れ歯を出し入れするおじいさんの姿は、とても不思議でショッキングな光景でした。若くして自分の歯を悪くした景子先生のおじいさんは、それがきっかけで歯科医師になろうと思ったそうです。 その後、先生の父親も大阪で優れた口腔外科医になり、彼女の将来の進路選択に大きな影響を与えました。英語が得意だった彼女にとって翻訳の仕事に従事する事も夢のひとつでした。しかし、自分の祖父や父親が施した治療に多くの患者様が喜ぶ姿を見て、自分も歯科医師になろうと決意したのです。 景子先生は、大阪歯科大学で1995年に歯科医師免許を取得した後、父親の経営する2つの歯科医院に管理医として8年間勤めました。勤務の傍ら、大学でも研究を続け、2004年には同大学で歯科博士号を取得しました。 外国籍の歯科医師がアメリカで歯科医師として働く為には、アメリカで認定された歯科大学を卒業し、国家試験及び州の試験に合格しなければなりません。 景子先生はアメリカの大学に通い始める直前に第一子を出産したばかりで、乳幼児を育てながらの大学通いは彼女にとって大きなチャレンジとなりましたが、カリフォルニア州サンフランシスコにあるパシフィック大学歯学部を首席で卒業しました。また、アメリカ歯科名誉協会であるOmicron Kappa Upsilon(OKU)、さらにアメリカ全州の大学内で設立されているWho’s Who Among Students in American Universities &Colleges (2007)のメンバーにも選ばれました。 景子先生はアメリカ歯科協会（ADA)、ハワイ歯科協会（HDA)、ホノルル郡歯科協会（HCDS)の会員である他、歯科学術誌にもいくつかの論文を掲載しており、大阪歯科大学の非常勤講師でもあります。また、歯科医業以外にも、スタンフォード大学内にある3-Ｄ技術を駆使した歯科技術画像会社である Brown&Herbranson Human のコンサルタント、翻訳者としても活躍しております。 歯科医師としての技術や知識を向上する為に、スタッフと共に学会や勉強会にも積極的に参加しています。2007年には矯正治療の一環であるインビザライン認定医となり、多くの患者様に矯正治療も提供させて頂いております。

Periodontal Care - What is Periodontal Disease?
Also known as gum disease, it is the oral disease that is associated with your gums and bone support around your teeth. The infection is caused by plaque bacteria attached to your teeth. The bacterial buildup hardens to what is know as “tartar”. Without removal, it affects your gums, teeth and supporting bone.

Periodontal Care - What are Signs and Symptoms?
You may notice swelling and redness of your gums, bleeding during brushing and flossing, and bad breath. Depending on the severity of the disease, you may even notice teeth becoming mobile. However, periodontal disease can be painless and remain untreated without regular checkups. Our dental hygienist will be able to measure your pocket depths at each visit, review x-rays and evaluate the appearance of your gum health.

Periodontal Care - How is Periodontal Disease Treated?
Once diagnosed that you have periodontal disease, it is recommended to start treatment with “Scaling and Root Planning”, or also know as a deep cleaning. The hygienist will numb the area so that a thorough cleaning can be preformed by removing the tartar and bacterial buildup underneath the gums. After the deep cleaning, it is recommended to come back every 3 months for a periodontal maintenance cleaning. This type of cleaning is preformed to control the periodontal condition, by maintaining and stopping its progression.
