Ala Moana Dental Implants - Dr. Keiko Watanabe - Implant Dentist

Dental Implants are the most natural, modern method for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. By providing excellent support, dental implants also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures.

Dental Implants are artificial roots, made of titanium, that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by an oral surgeon; a specialist for the mouth and jaw.  Although some general dentists place implants, using a specialist to place the implants ensures you are receiving the highest quality and reduces the risk of any potential complication.  In our office, we work with the top specialist to provide you with the uncompromising care.

Dental implants provide strong and stable restoration of missing teeth and will last for may years. Some insurance plans may cover implant procedures. Please contact our patient coodinator regarding your insurance benefit today.

 Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without reducing enamel of healthy adjacent teeth.
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
  • Restore a patient’s confident smile.
  • Improve chewing, speech, and overall health.
  • Restore or enhance facial contour.
  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.
  • Implants are easier to clean than bridges.

What does getting dental implants involve?

The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months.

After an initial consultaton with an oral surgeon, X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant.  While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone. This procedure normally takes approximately one hour to complete. IV sedation is also available upon request. The procedure is gentle, and causes minimal discomfort. The impants are allowed to heal and integrate itself onto the bone for up to six months.  Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place.  With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.

After several months of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient. For those who have bruxism; grinding of teeth, a bite splint such as night guard may be worn during the night in order to protect your implants.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed.  Good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new implant.
